About Nada

Nada Mousilli has been a teacher for half a century. She has taught Arabic and faith to generations of students, privately and with great patience, one family at a time.

The love of learning that sends Feras into a classroom in Medellín and Basim into a live class every Thursday began at home, with her.

Her story, in chapters

Along the way

  1. 1974

    The first lessons

Nada began teaching in the early seventies, in the years when a family who wanted their children to keep the language had to find someone who could actually teach it rather than simply speak it.

  2. Houston and the Gulf

    One family at a time

Across Houston and the Gulf she taught the children of families who found her the same way: another family told them. Almost never a room of more than one.

  3. Language and faith

    Arabic and Islam, together

She teaches reading, writing, the Qur'an and Islamic studies side by side, because for the families she teaches the two were never separate. What carried across all of it was that the children ended up able to read.

  4. At home

The first teacher in the family

The love of learning that sends Feras into a classroom in Medellín and Basim into a live class every Thursday began at home, with her.

  5. Today

    Her academy

She still teaches privately, with a small group class a few times a year as the open door. She reads every enquiry herself.
