I could not find a thing in twelve years of notes. So I built my own app.

Twelve years across Keep, Apple Notes, Evernote, Notion and ClickUp, and the notes app I built in April 2026.

Have you ever written something down so you would not forget it, and then never found it again?

I did that for twelve years. Here is how many notes I lost track of, what it cost me, and why I finally built my own app.

The scene

It is 11 PM. You remember writing an idea down, a phone number, a promise to someone. Was it in Keep? Apple Notes? That doc? A message to yourself? You open four apps and search four times. You give up. You write it down again, in a fifth place.

What I actually had

When I counted, I did not believe the numbers.

  • 2,727 notes in Google Keep, the first from 22 May 2013, the last from November 2025.
  • 68 notes in Apple Notes, from August 2024 on.
  • Docs in Google Docs. Tasks and docs in ClickUp. A pile of ideas I had emailed myself. Messages to myself in chat apps.

I tried Evernote. I tried Notion. I paid for ClickUp, which in September 2025 was $154.57 a month on its own, mostly for a place to put things. I eventually cancelled it and chased a refund.

Every tool did one thing well. None of them was the place. So the real cost was never the subscription. It was the afternoon I spent hunting for something I already knew I had written.

Why I kept switching

Keep was fast, and that is why I loved it. Open, type, done. But it could not hold a real document, a recording, a whiteboard or a link to a customer. Notion could hold everything and was slow to start. Evernote kept everything and found nothing. Apple Notes was always at hand and nowhere else.

I wanted the speed of Keep with the power of the big ones. Nobody sold that, so in April 2026 I built it.

What I built

I started on 22 April 2026 and had a working editor the next day. Today there are 3,127 notes in it, and 2,727 of them are my Keep notes, brought across with their dates intact.

  • Type fast, like Keep. Make it a full document when you need one.
  • Mention a person, a brand or a task right inside a note, and it links.
  • Notes attach to the customer, the task or the person they belong to.
  • Photos and files drop in. Places and dates are read from the photo.
  • Share a link to a note, live cursors when two of us edit.
  • Fuela, my AI, searches all of it. I ask a question and get the note.

I also made import buttons for ClickUp and Evernote, so nobody has to start over.

What changed

I stopped asking "where did I put that?" I ask Fuela, and the answer is one place.
